Mindset is everything
Last weekend was my mother’s 85th birthday.
Nicki had some great things planned for us all to do as a bit of a surprise and we were looking forward to giving her a lovely day.
Only during the week leading up to the weekend she started to get anxious and suddenly develop all sorts of reasons why she may not be able to go out on her birthday day out treat.
Her legs were too weak and painful
Her breathing wasn’t great, and her heart was giving her pain.
Now I am not being mean, but all this is a typical pattern with my Mum.
She frightens herself into believing she will not be able to do anything on the planned day.
I don’t know why as she has always been a sociable person and loves chatting to people and going out for lunch, Dinner or coffee and cake.
She used to always have large groups of family and friends over and cook for them all.
As we got closer to the weekend she wouldn’t go shopping for her groceries and didn’t want to go to her favorite café… Her reason was, “oh I am just not well enough” .
So, Nicki and I revised our plans and decided we would take her out for a short walk around the market in town then on for a nice lunch in a lovely local pub we like.
This would be nice and easy paced for her , plus if she really wasn’t great and had pain or problems breathing we could get her back home very quickly
So right up to the day we were hearing “I can’t do it , I can’t Walk. I can only go out for a very short time “.
All of which was her anxiety building up and up.
Now we could have let her get to the point where she didn’t even leave the house, only because we know that it was all in her mind we turned up and told her we were taking her out.
When we got to the market , she was off , looking at all the stalls, buying cakes , biscuits and even steak from the butchers van.
Then she saw a shop she wanted to go into and of she went with Nicki to have a good browse,
We had to call the pub and push back the booking by 60 minutes as she was enjoying the shops and market so much.
We went had lunch , which was devoured by her and then took her back home when her Grandson and Great Granddaughter popped round to see her too.
This all happened from 11am – 6pm.
Guess what , not once did she have a problem her legs , heart or breathing !
And she had a lovely day
So my point here is… that we can always find a reason for us to put off or doing things.
Our minds play silly tricks on us and we have those voices in our heads say “ you can’t do that” and “don’t bother it’s pointless doing that , nothing ever comes of it”.
This is especially true if we are doing something outside of out comfort zone or that we don’t particularly like doing.
But these things are exactly the things you need to be doing to succeed in your property journey. You have to?
Get out and view properties.
Meet vendors directly.
Do your due diligence.
Do your Numbers.
Put in offers on properties that work for you.
Walk the streets and see what the area is like
….. Etc etc
If you don’t , you wont succeed and you will just stay where you are and not progress to achieve the goals you have set for yourself.
Staying were you are in the current economic climate is actually the same as going backwards!
Maybe you haven’t even set yourself goals and actions to work towards them because of those voices and your fear or anxieties. Or you may even not be sure how to go about it.
So please , if you are serious about:
moving forward ,
achieving your goals ,
making a difference in your life and/or others lives
Creating the life, you want and deserve
Then find a period in your diary, EVERYDAY, to do something that moves you closer to those goals.
A great book that I recommend you read is Get It Done Now by Brian Tracy
